Paver Cleaning, Sanding and Sealing Assessment

A paver patio with green growth, dirty surfaces or failing joints needs more thought than a quick rinse. WNY Pressure Wash can assess cleaning needs for paver patios, walkways and driveways across Western New York. A useful plan considers the surface, joint condition and any existing coating together.

Tell us whether you want basic cleaning or are also considering sanding and sealing. Those additional needs must be assessed and confirmed before becoming part of an estimate. We will not assume every paver installation needs the same product, process or finish simply because it looks dirty.

Should pavers be resanded after pressure washing?
It depends on the existing joints and how much material is missing or disturbed. Cleaning does not mean every patio automatically needs an identical sanding procedure. Joint replenishment, the appropriate material and any sealing plan should be evaluated separately and clearly included if they are part of the agreed work.

Look at more than the top of the paver

Dirt and biological growth affect appearance, but the joints can reveal a different maintenance need. Missing joint material, persistent vegetation and loose or uneven units should be pointed out before cleaning begins. Cleaning a paver surface does not repair its base or reset a settled patio.

Send a wide photo of the installation and close-ups of the joints. Include any existing sealer information, such as the product or application date if you know it. Unknown coatings and uneven finishes are useful to flag early because they can affect the assessment.

A clear plan for your property

01 / Review the installation
Identify the paver type, joint condition, surface buildup and any existing sealer before deciding what the project needs.

02 / Separate the tasks
Distinguish cleaning from joint replenishment, sealing and repairs so the estimate reflects the actual proposed work.

03 / Agree on the finish
Discuss appearance expectations and confirm any optional treatments only after surface suitability and scope are established.

Why paver cleaning, sanding and sealing are separate decisions

Cleaning addresses suitable surface buildup. Joint work addresses the material between units. Sealing adds a separate product decision that depends on compatibility, condition and the desired appearance. Combining those steps into one project can be convenient, but each should still be described in the estimate.

Polymeric sand is not a universal instruction for every paver installation. Product guidance and the actual joint configuration matter. Likewise, sealing should not be promised before the existing surface and coating are understood. Ask what is included rather than assuming a cleaning quote covers a full restoration.

A cleaner patio does not need an unrealistic promise

Cleaning may reveal color hidden by grime, but it cannot guarantee reversal of weathering or manufacturing variation. Weed removal does not mean weeds can never return. A sensible goal is a clearly defined improvement with an honest explanation of remaining wear, joint needs and ongoing maintenance.

  • Flag settling, loose units and drainage concerns.
  • Confirm any joint replacement and sealing separately.
  • Discuss the desired finish before choosing a coating.

Questions people ask before booking

Why are my patio pavers turning green?

Shaded or damp areas can develop biological growth. The surface and site conditions should be assessed before cleaning. Persistent moisture or drainage problems may need separate attention to reduce recurrence.

Can pressure washing damage pavers?

An unsuitable method can affect surfaces or disturb joints. The appropriate approach depends on the units, condition and coating. That is why the installation should be reviewed before the method is chosen.

Does paver cleaning include polymeric sand?

Not automatically. Joint material, suitability and the amount of work need separate review. Sanding is included only when it is confirmed and stated in the agreed estimate.

Will sealing keep weeds out forever?

No permanent weed-free result should be promised. Debris and seeds can collect over time, and joint condition matters. Ask about realistic maintenance expectations instead of treating sealing as a permanent cure.

Tell us what you are seeing

Send photos of your paver surface and joints. Tell us if you want cleaning only or would like sanding and sealing needs assessed too.

You do not need to know the technical name for the stain or surface. Describe the problem in your own words. Include a wider view and a close-up if you email photos; photos are not required to start an inquiry.
